So now that I’ve got my hands on a pass for the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I need to plan out the rest of my trip. I’m going to be !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from southwestern Ontario (Canada eh) to NYC.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

My weapon of choice for the road trip: An E30 with suspension that is far too stiff and an exhaust set-up that is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to be making a trip of this length lol...

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Kinja'd!!!

I'm also in the process of trying to convince a friend of mine to buy a ticket and make the trip with me in his 1984 911...

Kinja'd!!!

What I need from you cool cats in NYC is some information/suggestions on decent (fairly nice yet affordable) places to stay for the few days I'm there as well as some information regarding how and where to park my car while I'm there. I'm guessing there are tons of underground parking places, I just don't know if they allow people to park cars there for more than 24hrs at a time. Obviously closer to the the venues where the events are being held ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and BAM Rose Cinemas in Brooklyn) would be preferred to limit long trips on public transit.

On a final note, any worth while roads for the driving enthusiast to check out along the way (I'll likely be crossing the boarder at Niagara Falls) are worth a mention as well!

This request isn't limited to just New Yorkers, anyone with experience travelling to NYC is welcome to chime in. Any advice or information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

For parking use this site. You plug in the times you will need the car to be parked and it gives you the rates for all the lots around the city. You can scroll around the map the find the location that meets your needs and see which ones have the best rates. I have done this a bunch and it has saved me a ton of $.

As for a place to stay that really depends on what you expect out of a hotel. I used to stay at the Broadway Hotel and Hostel and had good experiences with it. You can get amazing rates if you can get a group to all book together. It is not exactly close to either location but it is close to subway stations that will get you to both locations without having to change trains.

Thanks!

I actually saw that hostel when I was looking for accommodations last night and it was booked up on the 18th-20th.

Basically, in New York City, any place with a big sign that says "PARKING" will be happy to take your car for more than 24 hours, however they will RIP you off. I personally park my car slightly outside of the city in the Newark New Jersey area, it's a lot cheaper, and you can access it with the path train. I live in downtown Manhattan but my apartment is full with my other family members and is rather small. I got a ticket to the festival and I shall see you there.

You could probably pull off parking in the street in Brooklyn however. There's a system that is called "Alternate Side parking" and there are certain days where you can leave your car on the side of the road for the whole day for free/without being ticketed. The areas vary by the (cryptic) signs that are up. If you need help, I can totally help you find a good spot in brooklyn near dumbo since I'm pretty familiar with that area (my dad lives there), and there's a lot of good spots where I leave my ML for a few days sometimes. The best kind of spots are the ones that say WEDNESDAY 8-9:30, which means you CAN'T park your car there from the time on the sign, and if it is free, and about a fiat 500 away from a fire hydrant, you can leave your car there until the next wednesday. Good luck and I'd like to see your awesome E30!

If you go to availability and see the calendar and click from the 18th-20th there is a room with a bunk bed available for $120/night. The total comes out to $282.40 for two people for two nights in the city, which is a pretty good price.

How about Harrison NJ Path station, its an enclosed parking lot and pretty safe, should be about $10 per day to park. Path tickets are about $2 and you will be in lower Manhattan in about 30 minutes. This is my daily commute to work btw..

Air BnB is your friend and will likely be cheaper/nicer than a hotel. You might be able to get a really nice place in or around DUMBO (halfway between BAM and CCC Manhattan) for not that much. Money saved can be spent on parking.

Hostel might be more interesting though, not sure if you're into meeting lots of foreigners and stuff.

Hey, thanks for the tip. However since I'm likely going to be travelling with a friend who has his own car we'll probably want to park together and preferably at or near where we are staying... which we have yet to figure out. Either way, thanks for the tip, and if it's warm enough I'll likely be wearing and E30 T-Shirt at the event keep an eye out for it lol.

Ahhh. Alright. Sometimes you can get lucky and find two spots. I'll keep an eye out for an E30 shirt and I'll say hi! Good luck on the road trip and maybe post a few updates/ pics along the way!
